Gala a fost transmisă de ABC în America iar în România de platforma Voyo, printre prezentatori aflându-se numeroase nume consacrate precum Harrison Ford, Kate Hudson, Mindy Caling, John Travolta şi multe alte vedete. CNN a obţinut primul Oscar: „Navalny”, filmul despre dizidentul rus Alexei Navalny, fiind recompensat cu premiul pentru cel mai bun lung-metraj documentar.

Academia americană de film (AMPAS) care organizează gala de decernare a premiilor Oscar a respins cererea preşedintelui ucrainian Zelenski de a susţine un discurs în timpul transmisiei televizate a ceremoniei, ceea ce l-a făcut pe şeful diplomaţiei de la Kiev să califice refuzul „un exemplu de ipocrizie”. Respingerea solicitării preşedintelui Zelenski survine într-un moment în care sondajele de opinie arată că sprijinul american pentru acordarea de asistenţă Ucrainei a început să scadă. Anterior Zelenski avusese intervenţii prin satelit la festivalul de la Cannes, festivalul de la Veneţia, gala Grammy Awards, gala Globurilor de Aur.
